기억의 이미지 나의 그림은 기억의 이미지화다. 기억은 이미지를 형성하고 이미지를 통해 기억은 표출된다. 지각과 경험의 울타리'(기억)에 근거해 어떤 의도가 시도되고 감정이 표출되고 소재나 재료, 색감이 선택되고 이것은 어떤 이미지를 만들게 된다. 결국 내가 표현한 이미지는 내 삶의 기억, 내 삶의 이야기들이다. 하지만 '내 삶'이라는 것은 결국 다른 사람들과의 '관계'에서 만들어지게 되니 결국 보편적 인간을 표현하게 된다고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 내 작품을 보는 것은 나의 내부로 잠행해 들어가는 동시에 내 그림을 보는 사람들 자신의 속으로 들어가 보는 것이 된다. 내 자신을 돌아보며 나를 찾는 과정이다 나'를 찾는 과정에서 우리는 다른 사람들과의 '관계'를 깨닫게 되고 그 과정에서 '소통'이 이루어진다. 나의 그림은 결국 그 '소통'을 위한 매개체다. 소통은 단순한 현재의 언어만으로 이루어지는 것은 아니다. 과거와 현재, 나와 너를 잇는 소통의 매개체가 바로 내가 표현한 기억의 이미지들이다. 도자기도 단순한 그릇이 아니다. 나는 도자기라는 이미지를 소통의 매개체로 선택했다. 그 안에 내 삶의 이야기를 풀었고 동시에 보편적인 인간의 모습을 담았고 찾았다. 도자기는 우리 인생사와 많이 닮았다. 도자기의 선은 인생의 여러 길 같다. 갈라지면서 이어지고, 비슷한 듯하며 다르고, 다른듯 하면서 하나로 아우러진다. 삶의 질곡과 애환, 웃음과 울음, 그리고 결국엔 그런 것들을 다 아우르는 어떤 기운... 꾸밈없고 단순한 형태와 색감은 우리 마음 밑바닥의 측은지심 같다. 이렇듯 도자기는 내 삶의 기억들의 이미지고 동시에 보편적인 인간의 삶의 이야기를 담고 있다. 나의 도자기는 말이다. 내가 그 안에 기억을 넣어주면서 그것은 단순한 도자기가 아니라 우리의 기억이 되었다. 여러 선과 흔적은 시공을 초월한 암호이고 우리는 우리의 기억을 더듬어 그 암호를 풀어나간다. 나의 그림을 보며 한 기억을 떠올려 그 안으로 들어가 보라, 그 속에 착한 인간의 존재가 있다. 그 안에서 삶의 이야기를 찾는 여정을 시작해보기 바란다. 그 안에서 우린 만나고 있을 것이다. 나는 내 삶의 이야기를 그렸지만 결국 그것은 우리 모두의 삶의 이야기이기 때문이다. Images of Memory My paintings are visualizations of memory. Memory forms images, and through images, memory is expressed. Based on the boundaries of perception and experience—what we call memory—intentions are shaped, emotions are expressed, and choices of material, subject, and color are made. These choices ultimately create an image. The images I express, therefore, are reflections of my life and its memories—my own stories. Yet, “my life” is inevitably formed through relationships with others; thus, my works ultimately express the universal human condition. To look at my paintings is to journey inward—to delve into my inner self and, at the same time, into one’s own. It is a process of self-reflection and self-discovery. In seeking to find “myself,” we come to recognize our relationships with others, and in that recognition, communication occurs. My paintings are, in essence, mediators for that communication. Communication does not exist only in the language of the present; it transcends time and connects past and present, self and other. The images of memory I depict are the medium of that timeless dialogue. Ceramics, too, are not merely vessels. I have chosen the image of ceramics as a medium of communication. Within them, I unfold the stories of my life while also seeking and reflecting the universal aspects of human existence. Ceramics resemble human life in many ways. The lines of a vessel are like the many paths of life—diverging yet connecting, similar yet different, different yet unified as one. The joys and sorrows, laughter and tears, and ultimately the encompassing energy of life itself are all contained within them. Their unadorned and simple forms and colors reflect the compassion that lies deep within our hearts. In this way, ceramics become images of my life’s memories and, at the same time, vessels that contain the shared narratives of humanity. By placing memory within them, I transform each piece from a mere object into a repository of our collective memory. The lines and traces that appear on their surfaces are timeless symbols—codes that we unravel as we trace the paths of our own memories. As you look upon my paintings, recall a memory and enter it. There, you will encounter the gentle essence of human existence. Begin your journey to rediscover the stories of life within. Somewhere within that space, we will meet—for though I have painted the story of my own life, it is, in the end, the story of us all.
