자연과 인간의 프랙탈 구조 _Fractal Structures in Nature and Humanity 이루다 (갤러리 다선 대표) | Lee Rooda (Director, Gallery Dasun) 모든 자연은 자기유사성과 순환성을 가지고 있는데 하나의 구조가 지속적으로 중첩, 반복되면서 큰 구조를 이룬다. 즉 모든 우주는 프랙탈(fractal)의 형태로 되어있다고 할 수 있다. 또한 우리가 자연을 바라보며 정서적 안정감과 편안함을 느낄 수 있는 것은, 자연이 시각적으로 예측 가능한 구조를 가지고 반복되기 때문이다. 나아가 프랙탈 구조를 기반으로 한다면 자연이 아닌 창작물에서도 동일한 효과를 가질 수 있다. All natural phenomena exhibit self-similarity and cyclicality, where a single structure continuously overlaps and repeats to form a larger whole. In essence, the entire universe can be understood as a fractal. Nature provides us with emotional stability and comfort because it follows visually predictable patterns. This suggests that even man-made creations can evoke similar effects when they are based on fractal structures. 이운우 작가는 이러한 자연 구조의 프랙탈 개념에 집중하고 이를 예술로 승화시키고자 하였다. 그는 단순한 선을 반복적으로 사용하여 평면에 입체감과 리듬감을 발현하였다. 무수한 선의 중첩과 반복은 공허한 캔버스에 새로운 시공간을 창출하며, 동시에 시각적 안정감을 형성한다. 즉 자연에서의 규칙적 구조인 프랙탈의 원리를 조형적 모티브로 삼아 작품 속에 시각적으로 구현한 것이다. Artist Lee Unwoo focuses on the fractal nature of natural structures and transforms this concept into art. He employs simple, repetitive lines to generate a sense of depth and rhythm on the flat surface. The endless layering and repetition of these lines create new spatial dimensions on otherwise empty canvases while establishing a calming visual order. In doing so, he visualizes the fractal principles found in nature as a sculptural motif. 작가는 이러한 개념을 자연을 넘어 인간에게도 확장시킨다. 자연의 요소들이 서로 관계를 맺듯, 인간도 관계망 속에서 살아가며 ‘연(緣)’이라는 연결의 선으로 이루어져 있다는 것이다. 인간은 예로부터 사회적 규칙을 만들고 그 안에서 자신의 영역을 개척해왔는데, 이러한 행동 양식은 자연의 프랙탈 구조와 유사하다. 이는 그의 근작인 '연(緣)' 시리즈에서 뚜렷하게 드러난다. 작가는 일상의 평범한 장면들을 작품에 담아 자연과 함께 배치함으로써 그 의미를 더욱 확장시킨다. Lee extends this idea beyond nature to encompass human existence. Just as elements in nature are interrelated, human life is composed of countless interconnected lines—what he calls Yeon (缘), or “ties.” Throughout history, humans have created rules to live together and carve out their spaces within society—behavior that mirrors fractal structures in nature. This notion is clearly reflected in his recent Yeon series, where familiar everyday scenes are embedded into compositions alongside natural forms, deepening their emotional and symbolic resonance. 예술은 언제나 그 시대의 생활상을 반영한다. 현대미술 역시 예외는 아니다. 가장 일상적인 장면들을 새로운 방식으로 표현하며, 그것을 새롭고 낯설게 느끼게 한다. 이운우 작가의 작품은 우리가 스쳐 지나치는 자연과 삶을 자신만의 언어로 재해석함으로써 관객에게 다양한 사유의 계기를 제공한다. 이번 전시가 관람자 각자의 삶을 되돌아보는 시간이 되고, 작품을 통해 정서적 안정과 편안함을 경험하길 바란다. Art has always mirrored the lifestyle and sentiments of its time, and contemporary art is no exception. By expressing the most ordinary moments through new visual languages, it gives us an experience of both familiarity and novelty. Lee Unwoo’s works reinterpret nature and daily life—often overlooked—in his own unique way, prompting viewers to reflect deeply. This exhibition offers an opportunity for each visitor to pause, contemplate their own life, and discover a sense of emotional serenity within the works.
