이 필 (홍익대학교 교수, 미술사 & 예술 비평) 위계 없는 세상은 존재할 수 있을까. 철학자의 면모를 지닌 예술가 박용호는 우리에게 이러한 질문을 던지도록 한다. ‘위계 없는 세계’를 그리는 작가는 ‘위계’의 근거가 부재함을 예술로써 증명하는 방법을 취한다. 그의 작업은 위계 현상의 직접적인 재현으로부터 거리를 두는 대신 존재자와 그들의 존재 양상에 대한 더 근원적인 질문을 향한다. 그의 작업은 개별자와 그들이 함께 존재하는 방식 및 그들이 이루는 미시세계의 풍경을 담는다. 개별자는 방정식에서 미지수 X에 상응하며 불완전한 변수이다. 이 불완전한 단위는 다른 단위와 관계 맺기를 반복하며 가시적이고 비가시적인 것의 총체인 현상의 풍경을 구성한다. 금속과 목재라는 다른 성격을 가진 재료가 합쳐서 이루는 작가의 ‘위계 없는 풍경’은 결코 현실 세계의 형상으로 표현할 수 없는 그 무엇이다. 그래서 형상적이라기보다는 에너지를 분출하는 추상화로 표현된다. LEE Phil (Art History & Criticism, Professor of Hongik University) Can there be a world without hierarchies? Park Yongho, the artist with a philosophical vision, prompts us to consider this question. The artist depicting a ‘world without hierarchies’ employs art to demonstrate the absence of any basis for ‘hierarchy.’ Instead of the direct representation of hierarchies, his work directs us toward more fundamental questions about beings and their modes of existence. His work captures the individuals, the ways in which they coexist, and the micro-world landscapes they form. Each individual corresponds to the unknown X in an equation and is also an indeterminate variable. This indeterminate unit continuously relates with other units, constituting a landscape of phenomena that is the totality of the visible and invisible. The landscape without hierarchies formed by combining metal and wood is a combination that can hardly be expressed with figuration. Therefore, it is expressed as an abstraction that radiates energy.
